1. What is the CEB?
The Certificat d'Études de Base is a diploma awarded in the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, a Belgian political entity comprising the regions of Wallonia and Brussels.
The certificate is an official examination that marks the end of primary education in Belgium, after six years of compulsory education.
The CEB assesses the knowledge and skills acquired by pupils during their primary education.
2. The materials
The exam covers different subjects, mathematics, French, science, geography and history (environmental studies).
3. When does the event take place?
The certificate examination generally takes place in June of the sixth year of primary school.
4. Who drafts the CEB?
It is drawn up and marked by the Administration générale de l'Enseignement et de la Recherche scientifique (AGER), the body responsible for organising the examination.
5. How are students assessed?
Assessment of the certificate is based on objective criteria defined by the Ministry of Education of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
Students are assessed using multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions and questions requiring more in-depth analysis.
The results of the certificate are communicated to the students and their parents or legal guardians.
Pupils may be awarded different distinctions depending on their performance. These awards are not compulsory, but they are a way of recognising pupils' efforts and results.
In short, the Certificat d'Études de Base (CEB) in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation is an official examination that assesses pupils' knowledge and skills at the end of primary education. It marks the end of this stage of the school career and constitutes a reference for future learning in secondary education.
6. Cogito helps your child pass the CEB 2025 exam
At Cogito, we start by mapping out your child's current knowledge, so that we can focus our support on their real needs. We then set up a personal work plan to prepare them. The intensity of our support, which is always regular, will vary according to your child's needs. The aim is to ensure that your child achieves a comfortable level of success that will give them confidence for the rest of their school career.
7. How can I consult previous years' tests?
The Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles is making available all the old certificate examinations. Here they are:
The 2021 version of the exam is identified as "CEB 2020". In reality, the 2021 exam is the one originally scheduled for 2020. The cancellation of the June 2020 exam was confirmed once all the documents intended for students had been printed. After checking that the exam met the essential requirements, it was decided, for ecological and economic reasons, to use it in June 2021.
