Terms and conditions for 'Higher Education' (universities, colleges) - for secondary and primary students, see further down on this page

Article 1

These general conditions apply to all students and their parents, who also sign them in agreement. They accept them by registering with Cogito. Any special conditions will be taken into account subject to prior written agreement between the student and Cogito. All our prices include VAT.

Article 2

A student who registers with Cogito chooses the Private Tutoring, the University Work Methodology Seminar, the Assisted Blockade or the product indicated when the invoice is issued. There is no obligation to participate in the various activities.

Article 3 - Rights

3.1. The fees to be paid consist of a fixed amount (annual administrative fee) and a variable amount (which depends on the service in which the student is enrolled). The annual administrative fee, amounting to 65 euros, is valid for the current academic year, up to and including the summer period, for all the children of the same family (in the strict sense: brothers, sisters).

3.2 "Coaching private lessons". Different packages.

"Coaching Private tuition' is the 'standard' product for higher education students during the year. At a pace agreed with the student, the trainer: - supervises the student's work in the agreed subjects; - establishes with the student a precise, realistic and regularly updated work programme; - helps the student to organise his or her work during the week and at weekends; - checks his or her knowledge systematically and thoroughly; - brings the student up to speed if he or she has a problem understanding and gives him or her a boost if he or she loses momentum. The Cogito trainer adapts his or her follow-up to the student's personality, needs and pace, contacting and meeting with the student as often as necessary to ensure that he or she follows the programme.

3.3. A "10-hour pack" is available for one-off needs, e.g. for follow-up in one subject; the fee for this pack is EUR 520 including tax. A "20-hour pack" is available for more intensive follow-up; the fee is EUR 980 including tax. The fee for the "30-hour pack" is EUR 1,440 including VAT and the fee for the "40-hour pack" is EUR 1,880 including VAT. These hours can be used between the time of subscription and the end of the academic year (31 August following). A "5-hour pack" is available during the examination period; the fee is EUR 275 including tax.

3.4. The preparation for the medical and dental entrance examination is strictly individual and is carried out in 15-hour blocks. The fee is EUR 970 including VAT.

3.5. Seminar on the Methodology of Academic Work: the cost of this seminar, which is strictly individual, lasts from 2.5 to 3 hours, either at a distance or in our offices (as you wish), is 250 euros including tax.

3.6. Assisted blockade. The cost of a 5-day non-residential blockade-assisted week is 975 euros including VAT.

3.7. The fee for the Guidance Assessment is 250 euros including VAT.

Article 4 - Payment

The rights (annual administration fee 65 euros + deposit due according to the selected service) must be paid on receipt of the invoice to SA COGITO account no. 735- 0032067-45 (IBAN BE44735003206745, BIC KREDBEBB, account held at KBC Bank, Place Stéphanie, 10 - 1050 Brussels).

For all services, during the first days of the month following the services, a statement of the hours worked shall be sent, via the monthly statement referred to in Article 9.

The statements of account that you receive every month, in accordance with Article 9, will enable you to know exactly which services have already been provided.

The services subscribed to are provided during the current school or academic year, with no carry-over from one year to the next. No refund will be made if the student/parents decide not to request the hours or services to which he/she is entitled.

Article 5

Appointments are fixed by mutual agreement with the student, who must ensure that they are respected. Any delay by the student in relation to the scheduled time will be counted, and any cancellation the day before or on the day of the session will result in the loss of the session, except in cases of force majeure.
Any cancellation by COGITO the day before or on the day of the session will result in compensation equal to the price of the cancelled session, except in cases of force majeure.

Article 6

At the end of each session, the Cogito trainer sets precise objectives with the student as well as a work programme for the following session. The student must ensure that he/she complies with these objectives. Any session cut short due to the student's lack of work is lost in its entirety and the student's parents will be informed by email or telephone of the situation.

Article 7

Any service performed on behalf of the student is taken into account in the hourly volume provided (for example, one hour of correction of exercises is equivalent to one hour of individual tuition) at the rate of the private tuition package that has been subscribed or, failing that, at 50 euros/hour.

Article 8 - Cancellation of a course by the student/parents

8.1 Except in cases of force majeure (unforeseeable and insurmountable events), the client who cancels his registration in whole or in part for a face-to-face course (assisted face-to-face blockade), for whatever reason, will be liable for cancellation fees calculated in accordance with Article 8.3, without prejudice to COGITO's right to claim full compensation for the damage suffered as a result of this cancellation. In the case of force majeureIn the event of a force majeure, the student/parents must submit the case by email ([email protected]) within 24 hours of the occurrence of the force majeure and provide the documents justifying the force majeure.

8.2 No cancellation insurance is included in the price of the assisted block/study course.

8.3 Cancellation of the course(s) entails the payment of the following amounts: - for a cancellation 30 days before the start of the course: 25% of the price of the booked service - for a cancellation between the 29th and 8th day before the start of the course: 50% of the price of the booked service - for a cancellation less than 8 days before the start of the course: 75% of the price of the booked service - for a cancellation on the day of the course or after the start of the course, the full amount of the booked service will be charged.

All cancellations of a course should be made by email to [email protected] and by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt addressed to COGITO, chaussée d'Alsemberg, 1017, 1180 Uccle, with the postmark as proof of the date of cancellation.

The sending of the registered letter is an essential condition for the cancellation to be taken into consideration.

Article 8 bis - Cancellation of a face-to-face course by COGITO

8 BIS. 1 In exceptional cases, COGITO may be obliged to cancel a course for reasons of safety of the participants, insufficient number of students enrolled, or in cases of force majeure.

COGITO will, where possible, offer an equivalent placement at the same cost, which the student is free to accept. The student/parent signatory will be informed of the cancellation and the proposal of a new placement as soon as possible.

8 BIS. 2 In case of cancellation of the course by COGITO for reasons other than those indicated in article 8 BIS. 1, the cancellation will result in a fixed compensation of 25 % of the amounts already paid - for a cancellation occurring between the 29th and 8th day before the beginning of the course: 50% of the price of the amount paid - for any cancellation occurring less than 8 days before the beginning of the course: 75% of the price of the amount paid - for a cancellation on the same day or after the beginning of the course, 100 % of the amount paid.

Article 9 - Invoicing/Settlement

9.1. The fees (annual administration fee + tariff for the selected service) must be paid following the issue of the invoice to the account of COGITO listed in article 4 hereof.

If the amount of the invoice is not paid in cash, the amount due shall automatically bear interest, without any further reminder or prior notice of default, at the rate of 12% per annum and shall be increased by a fixed and irreducible compensation of 15% of the principal, with a minimum of 25 euros.

Cogito will be liable to pay the same irreducible lump-sum compensation if it fails to provide the services ordered by the student or his/her parents at the agreed time, except in cases of force majeure.

9.2. The statement of benefits is issued monthly. If you have received benefits during the current month, you will receive a statement from Cogito at the beginning of the following month.

The purpose of the monthly statement is to inform the student (or one of his/her parents) of the services that have been provided during the previous month; when the credit has been consumed, the statement constitutes an invoice.

The statement lists the services provided for information purposes only and does not constitute an acknowledgement of receipt of the amounts of the invoice (received previously) relating to the Service chosen by the student (or one of his/her parents).

9.3. For environmental, economic and convenience reasons, Cogito prefers to send invoices exclusively by email

Unless otherwise agreed, COGITO's invoices are addressed to the parent(s) who sign(s) the present contract for the services given to their child(ren).
If the student beneficiary is of age, he/she also signs these general conditions; in this case, the student of age and the parent(s) are jointly and severally liable to COGITO.

Article 10

In the event of disagreement, the parties shall attempt to reconcile their points of view in the light of these general conditions; if the disagreement persists, the Justice of the Peace of Uccle or the courts of the judicial district of Brussels shall have sole jurisdiction.

GENERAL CONDITIONS "SECONDARY" & "PRIMARY

Article 1

The present general conditions are applicable to all students. The latter accepts them, with the agreement of at least one of his or her parents, by enrolling at Cogito. Any special conditions will be taken into account with prior written agreement. All our prices include VAT.

Article 2

2.1. Two options are offered: "Tutoring", in a small group with individual explanations, and the "Plato" option, which is strictly individual.

A tutoring session consists of 3 hours of support, study, individual subject explanations and organisation of work (face-to-face) or 2 hours of support, study, individual subject explanations and organisation of work (distance learning).  

2.2. Regularity. In both formulas, the student undertakes to attend at least one session per week. If necessary, the number of sessions per week can be increased at the request of the student (his/her parents).

2.3. A two-hour, strictly individual, schoolwork methodology workshop is also offered.

Article 3

3.1. The fees to be paid consist of a fixed amount, the annual administrative fee, and a variable amount, which depends on the formula chosen by the pupil and his/her parents. The annual administrative fee, amounting to 65 euros, is valid for the current academic/school year, up to and including the summer period, for all the children of the same family (in the strict sense: brothers, sisters).

3.2 There are two types of tutoring, face-to-face and distance learning.

1°) School support, face-to-face formula

5 sessions of three hours for 420 euros including VAT.

10 sessions of three hours for 790 euros including VAT.

This rate per session remains in force for the following sessions.

2°) School support, distance learning

10 sessions of two hours for 520 euros including VAT.

20 two-hour sessions for 980 euros including VAT.

This rate per session remains in force for the following sessions.

3.3. The "Platon" package includes 20 hours of individual tuition, at a cost of 880 euros including tax, or 30 hours of individual tuition, at a cost of 1260 euros including tax.

3.4. The fee for the Schoolwork Methodology Workshop is 135 euros (VAT included).

Article 4 - Payment

The fees (annual administrative costs + tariff for the chosen formula) must be paid following the issue of the invoice into the account of COGITO SA FS 735-0032067-45 (IBAN BE44 735003206745, BIC KREDBEBB, account held at KBC Bank, Place Stéphanie, 10 - 1050 Brussels).

During the first days of the month following the services provided, a statement of the services provided shall be sent, via the monthly statement referred to in Article 9.

Example: If the student is registered on 15 October for the 5-session tutoring package, 65 euros (annual administrative fee) + 420 euros, i.e. a total of 485 euros, will be due in cash, subject to the surcharges referred to in Article 9.

If the student has taken 2 sessions, on 18 and 25 October, the student (or one of his/her parents) will receive a statement in the first few days of November showing the exact services that have already been provided.

The services subscribed to will be provided during the current school or academic year, with no carry-over from one year to the next. No reimbursement will be made if the student/parents decide not to request the hours or services to which he/she is entitled.

Article 5

Any delay in relation to the scheduled time will be counted, and any cancellation the day before or on the day of the scheduled session will result in the loss of the session, except in cases of force majeure. Any cancellation the day before or on the day of the session by COGITO will result in compensation equal to the price of the cancelled session, except in cases of force majeure.

Article 6

Study courses are organised during the school holidays. These courses are either residential or non-residential.

6.1 The residential course lasts for five days and costs 835 euros (i.e. 645 euros + 190 euros for accommodation).

6.2 Where the non-residential course extends over a period of five consecutive days, at a rate of six hours per day, the fee shall be EUR 645. The fee for courses longer or shorter than 5 days is specified in each case.

Article 7

Residential study weekends are organised at important 'moments' in the school year, particularly in the run-up to the CEB, CE1D and CESS. The price of a 2-day residential weekend is 318 euros.

Article 8 - Cancellation of a course by the student/parents

8.1 Except in the case of force majeure (unforeseeable and insurmountable event), the client who cancels his/her registration in whole or in part for a residential or non-residential course, for whatever reason, will be liable for cancellation fees calculated in accordance with article 8.3, without prejudice to COGITO's right to claim full compensation for the damage suffered as a result of this cancellation. In the event of force majeure, the student/parents must notify the school by email [email protected] at the latest 24 hours after the occurrence of the force majeure and provide the documents justifying the force majeure.

8.2 No cancellation insurance is included in the price of the study course.

8.3 Cancellation of the course(s) by the student/parents entails payment of the following amounts: - for cancellations made 30 days before the start of the course: 25% of the price of the service booked - for cancellations made between the 29th and 8th day before the start of the course: 50% of the price of the service booked - for cancellations made less than 8 days before the start of the course: 75% of the price of the service booked

Any cancellation of a course must be made by email to [email protected] and also by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt addressed to COGITO, chaussée d'Alsemberg, 1013, 1180 Uccle, the postmark being proof of the date of cancellation.

COGITO will, if possible, offer an equivalent course at the same cost, which the student is free to accept. The student/parent signatory will be informed of the cancellation and the proposal of a new course as soon as possible.

8 BIS. 2 In case of cancellation of the course by COGITO for reasons other than those indicated in article 8 BIS. 1, the cancellation will result in a fixed compensation of 25% of the price of the service booked - for a cancellation occurring between the 29th and 8th day before the start of the course: 50% of the price of the service booked - for any cancellation occurring less than 8 days before the start of the course: 75% of the price of the service booked - for a cancellation on the day itself or after the start of the course, 100 % of the price of the service booked.

Article 9 - Invoicing/Settlement

9.1. The fees (annual administrative costs + tariff of the chosen formula) must be paid following the issue of the invoice to the account of COGITO mentioned in article 4 hereof.

If the amount of the invoice is not paid in cash, the amount due shall automatically bear interest at the rate of 1% per month and shall be increased by a fixed and irreducible compensation of 15% of the principal, with a minimum of 25 euros.

Cogito will be liable for the same fixed and irreducible compensation if it fails to provide the services ordered by the student or his/her parents at the agreed time, except in cases of force majeure.

9.2. The statement of benefits is issued monthly. If you have received benefits during the current month, you will receive a statement from Cogito at the beginning of the following month.

The statement does not constitute an invoice and is intended to inform the student (or one of his/her parents) of the services that were provided during the previous month When the credit has been used, the statement constitutes an invoice.

The statement includes the price of the sessions provided for information purposes only and does not constitute an acknowledgement of receipt of the amounts of the invoice received at the time of registration and relating to the Formula chosen by the student (or one of his/her parents). 

9.3 For environmental, economic and convenience reasons, Cogito prefers to send invoices exclusively by email. 

Unless otherwise agreed, COGITO's invoices are addressed to the legally responsible parent(s) who sign(s) the present contract for the services given to his/her child.

If the beneficiary student is of age, he or she also signs these general conditions; in this case, the student of age and the parent(s) are jointly and severally liable to COGITO.

Article 10
